We are having major issues with silk and dull stocks drying properly. We have resorted to quoting them with additional varnish passes.

    Has anyone found a solution?

    Here are the specifics:

Stocks: Sterling, Productolith, McCoy, Delta and any other that we have tried

Inks: Toyo Hyplus EC MT LC - CMYK, Braden Sutphin spot color

    Press: Ryobi 524, Ryobi 3304, Ryobi 3302

Fountain Solution: Knikken Chemistry Mark IV Fountain Solution

    Dryer: Speedy Dry

For example, we ran Sterling under this criteria a week ago, and when we cut across a solid, it still edges on to the opposite side.

    Help!

Wow that surprizes me I find that running dull set stock ink set quick on the surface and bond very well to the stock, cut the next day with no issues. We run a basic sun chemical ink using prisco 2451+2 etch ( NO ALCOHOL ). ON any one of the machines. Never is the ink mixed with driers, but i always push for the lowest water setting, this stock repels the water back so very little required. You could alway go with "hard dry vinyl ink" from sun chemical and cut the same day, but it dries on the rollers within an hour, and it's a few more dollars.
    Good Luck

Hi, don't know if you're still having issues but here is the setup we use here,(south louisiana)..
Ryobi 3300, 3302, 3304HA, we run Pacific Products Enhanced Fountain Solution universal type. On the 04 I run PAR as well. Zipset inks across the board on all presses. Endurance velvet is our "dull" stock of choice. No real drying issues especially on the 3304. Some blues on the spot color presses may dry a little slower but not to bad. Hope you are able to get to the bottom of it.

Are you using stay open inks? Sometimes that can cause problems.
Dull/Matte stock has a tendency to do dry real well.
Its the surface of the paper that causes the problems. The ink is scuffing and doesn't dry hard on the surface.
Ask your ink supplier for a hard dry ink or a dull coat ink.
If you're in a bind. Add some overprint varnish to your ink. This will help a bit.
If you're PMS colors requires white in the mix. Substitute 15-20% of your white
with varnish. If it doesn't have white you might add oz per pound or so.

Had the exact same issue running Endurance Silk and McCoy stocks, after trying everything under the sun switched our stocks to Nantucket silk and problems solved no need for varnish!
