Excellant product in the segment. The deadly combination of speed and quality makes it the best product in mid production segment.

How long have you been running your c901 and what kind of work do you do with it?

We have had our 901 about 6 months. First few months, beautiful prints. But now it is not holding a blue solid and ghosting issues. After many service calls, samples finally had to be sent to Japan for the Ricoh people to try and figure out the problem. Overall, I like this machine. It produces a quality product on most stocks. But according to Ikon, there is a problem with it holding solids and Ricoh in Japan is working on it. But when it is running right, hard for any machine in this class to match it's speed and quality.

Used to work for Ricoh. This story is repeated over and over. Goes well for a few months then image quality poor or machine becomes unreliable. I thought that it may be a localised problem dependant on the skills of the tech. As a tech of 30 years experience, I believe that with Ricoh it is a build quality problem. Unfortunately you only get what you pay for. Sure ..no machine is perfect. Some though are designed better.

    Hi Di Nut
We are about to lease a Richo901 shortly, you mentioned the problem with solid Blues ( is that straight cyan or %cyan + % of either M or Y or K ?) Also how many images had you done before the problem showed up ? and is it on all stocks or more noticable on a particular substrate ? Does position of "Blue " solid effect result and what size of solid is the problem on A4 or A3 sheet size?

Sorry for the late reply Rocklands. We have had service in several times since I last posted. After several calls to management at IKON and many hrs of troubleshooting they have all but cleared up the cyan problem. As I suspected, new machine, inexperienced service department. We had about 40,000 clicks on the color before we noticed the Cyan problem. It also started to show up in all the other colors as well. Yes, it was on all stocks but severe on heavier cover, 12 pt 1s etc... Their common excuse was "it;s the paper' even though we were running Ricoh approved paper. Just one thought for you to consider, make sure they include a 2nd fuser unit in your contract. It is a necessity when you switch paper sizes, ie 11x17 - 12x18. Over all, I would give this machine a very high rating as far as quality and performance as long as you have a qualified service department. It has saved us many times on short run color jobs and continues to make us money. I still believe for a mid range color machine, it is one of the best on the market as we looked at Xerox, Konica Minolta, Canon etc.. this one stood out above the rest and I still believe we made the right decision. Good luck on your purchase.

When I read Di Nut's description of the problems they are facing...I thought I was reading my own words in regard to the problems we are experiencing with our Ricoh C901 also leased from Ikon here in NYC. We installed in April and in hindsight our Cyan streaking and banding problems began mid May...reappeared in mid June...and came home to stay on July 20th. Since then we have had multiple visits by Ricoh specialists, with the last one last week culminating with "sending samples to Japan". Today is 5 weeks since we put in the last call for this issue and we are still waiting for a solution. I have read of others with the same issues and do not understand how they keep pretending that they do not know how to resolve it. Di Nut...how did they finally solve the problem on your machine. I echo your sentiments that Ikon is wet behind the ears in regard to how to properly service this unit. Is anyone else out there on the Color Printing Forum having the same issues? I am very interested to know. Thanks.

    Hi HRNCY
Have informed Ricoh melb Australia of this disposition with the CYAN on the C901 and even forwarded your comments for them to respond to me ! Will be interesting to see how far it goes and what action has been taken and if head office Japan acknowledges that a problem of this nature came from the US ??? ( if not where) on a number of occasions !!!!!!!!! We will see.

    Hello Rocklands
Thank you very much for taking taking the time not only to respond to the discussion, but to go out of your way to forward the info to Ricoh in Melb. Australia. I was even contacted by a concerned executive from Ricoh in the Netherlands because of a Ricoh C901 discussion going on in LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/e/g9cvs7-grp1m1l1-2p/vaq/38682361/100048/49422405/view_disc/) where I have gone into more detail. Unfortunately this is more communication than I am receiving from Ikon and Ricoh USA. Every little bit helps as they are leaving me in an extremely bad situation as you can imagine. Please keep me posted on any feedback and thank you once again.

    Hi HRNCY
Feels like I know you already, with Ricoh making a big push here in Australia in am concerned with this "problem " as I am nearly ready to go down the C901 or C751 , you would think with such a serious fault others may of had the same thing and the gossip starts especially in the printing trade? I'll go to the linkedin link and get a full handle on the problem. By the way where are you situated ? A little more info and we could email direct rather than spill our gutz to who knows who !

Just an update on our 901. It has been running beautifully until about a week ago. Then, back came the streaking, both horizontal and vertical. After 3 visits by Ikon techs, still unable to resolve the issues. I have been on the phone with service managers and escalating the calls up the Ikon ladder to see if we can get the problem resolved. As of today it has been 1 week and as you can imaging, I have a few unhappy customers. I have decided that if they do not fix the problem in the next day or so, I am going to proceed to take action to have them return the unit and buy out the lease. Too bad, as the unit is one of the best when it comes to speed and quality when it is running right. Xerox, Canon and Minolta couldn't match the quality we were getting on our runs. I will keep you posted on what happens the next few days.
