Does anyone really give a crap about GREEN?

I was dining with another copy sales guy the other night...
He said, "Trishalicious, nobody really cares about the GREEN THING...
it's all hype... stop pushing that crap...you're never gonna make any money with that."

Now... I really like the Green stuff.. I think we need it... Especially in the print industry because it is so pollusive...

Here are my questions...I really do wanna know...

Do you print guys care about the Green stuff?
Have any customers asked for it...?

Do any of you feel that green will be the demise of printing?

Also... my kids are starting to look realllllly skinny....
if any of you need Savin/Ricoh or Riso machines...
Hit me up... I wanna be your favorite new copy machine lady...
Lets hook up in New York if you are near and I will take you to my secret portal where they will let you play with all the savins and ricohs.

My customers want quality, turnaround time, and price. Can't remember the last time one asked about greenness except for one who is into recycled paper for the image for a non-profit environmental org.

What do you sell that is "more green" than the standard for short run?

There seems to be a lot of wasted plastic in copiers that have a short 5 year lifespan - but what to do - I wouldn't want to commit to a digital machine longer than that as quality and speed are both rapidly improving right now.

Well this is whats killing me... I'm a dealer... and I go to manufacturers looking for the greenest product...
they tell me, " we use soy ink" or "we use carbonless toner"...
DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR!!!!!
I'm loyal to greening this industry...and everyone needs to take notice because the EPA is going to get their hooks into all of yaz.
Anyway... when purchasing ask about that...I know printers who make a darn good living on marketing their GREEN PRINTING ... they have a right to... they are offering the greenest solutions in a very pollusive industry...
Savin/Ricoh has the carbonless toner... even though I'm a dealer... I really do need to see kwh info for myself to see about the energy savings... I think every machine on the planet has the energy star rating now... yawn....
every company out there has the iso14001 thing.... yawn yawn...
I'm looking as hard as possible at products...
so far... the riso hc5500 ...Business Technology Association voted it most green ... can certainly do short runs but more cost effective on large runs ... 3 cents click color... 1/3 cent click bk/wht.... great on energy...heatless. variable data, inkjet, 180/120 ppm, 500k copies per month, ummm lessee... www.us.riso.com I think thats the link... gimme a ringy dingy ... I have that machine in my showroom ... the copy print guys fall in love with it over and over again because it opens up new opportunities for printers to make money ....I can deal all over the world pretty much...
oh.... also.. there are quite alot of machines out there with 20 million copies on them and they are still running... and riso will take the machine back and recycle it in the cradle to cradle fashion...
it can take 110 stock...can be tweeked to take heavier.
has a floater/blower thing as an option so embossed doesnt stick together...

glossy is not good on this... don't even think about it...
yikes...what a mess...
on the right paper (including recycled) the color is really rich!

At Quad Graphics were going green. Our supply base has green initiatives or we go elsewhere for product.
Our production plants are all rated "green" through an accepted accredidation.
Our silicone is now "Nonylphenol Free". So on....so on.....

Bottom line, we should care about the green initiative, but it's just one of many pieces in the business cycle.

...like to make a noise about using recycled paper....right up until we tell them the price differential - then they do a swift about turn and basically say f*ck the planet I want my job cheap.

Local councils are the worst in my view, insisting on recycled paper. Disregarding the fact that to de-ink for recycling is hugely energy intensive, not to mention the bleaches used that have to end up 'somewhere'.

Far better and less expensive alternatives exist. Try doing a search for Triple Green Paper - now that's what I call a responsible purchase decision.

I'm interested in the riso hc5500 -- questions:

1. can it print color copier quality images on plain paper, or does it require inkjet-coated paper to deliver a crisp clear photo?
2. does it require a heavier paper to not bleed through with higher coverage images or solids printing duplex?
3. is that low cost per imression a click charge contract including ink, or does the cost per print vary heavily based on coverage?

Interesting...We have own own Paper Buying Group due to the voltility, magnitude, and customer demands on paper; however, I'll look into the Triple Green Paper. Sounds interesting.

I don't thing all the "green" in the world will ever be able to replace hydrocarbons though.

I have been involved in a number of tenders. The first requirement for the $100,000 jobs are Green big Companies are pushing for image and marketing gain. The governments are also pushing to keep the green vote. If your business is the small guy you are wasting your time and money.
