Hi all... I was wondering what the average wages were in different countries for operators running a SM 52 5 colour with cp 2000. Australian examples would be appreciated. I'm curious to compare it with the wages i'm on at the moment (22 ph) Cheers!!

What sort of shifts are you doing and do you get any extra benefits on top? I was running single colour GTO's in Sydney and Perth and I'm sure I was earning around that. I also went to an interview in Melbourne and was asked to run a GTO for 2 hours and they paid me $50 for it, even though I didn't get the job! This was all back in 2002/3.

Day shift only. The business is in central North Queensland and is kinda isolated so the wages are lower (why I don't know!) Single colour wages and Multi colour press wages should be different though. I'm moving to Tasmania in October and I'm hoping the wages are higher in the city there

There is quite a few agencies in Aussie. Contact them. They should be able to give you a rough guide on wages. Also try contacting the union. Other choice, check out the Sydney Morning Herald (?) or any other newspaper based in a city like Melbourne or Brisbane and phone some job vacancies. Failing that, do what I did last year when I was after a pay rise and call round some printers and just ask. That did actually get me a pay rise ;)
