Printing method where the inked areas are higher than the non-printing areas which are pitted out. The inked areas are therefore placed in contact with a rubber surface which in turn transfers the ink to the material to be printed. This process eliminates the use of water as required in the conventional offset lithographic printing process.
Advantages include:
- The ability to run more consistent screens
- The ability to run higher screen rulings (though it's debated whether screens higher than 200-line or stochastic which can be run without going waterless reult in visible improvement)
- The ability to achieve greater color consistency
