Default Aquatint

An intaglio process in which particles of powdered resin are adhered to a metal plate with heat, either before or after etching the lines. When the plate is treated with acid, the acid corrodes it, leaving tiny depressions around each granule that retain ink when the plate is wiped. Treating (stopping out) some areas with varnish may vary the effect. Aquatints have broad tonal values and are thought to resemble ink or watercolor washes.
