Oce Vs. Xerox, from the trenches

    Hello Everyone,
recently my company switched from Xerox to Oce and the experience has been awful. the service has been worse than xerox, the printers jam more than the xeroxs. jams are more difficult to clear. our downtime has atleast doubled. there is nothing that these printer do better that the xerox counterparts. i hate these things.

i used to hate xerox, now i just want to go back. FML

I really like reading real experiences from the trenches, but what specific model(s) did you switch from and what specific model(s) did you switch to?

I think every manufacturer has some real gems that stand out as great printers and also some that cause problems. Give some specifics.

Also what are you doing with the printers - what stocks are jamming, etc? That makes it really helpful for others. Otherwise it's like having a room of people arguing whether all fords are better than all chevys or all chevys are better than all fords...

    printers

we have a Oce CM3522 that replaced a xerox work center pro. we use cheap recycled paper that we buy in bulk for these printers. the modular design of the xerox made clearing a jam quick and straight forward. the worst case scenario was taking apart a fuser to get out an accordion'd piece of paper. the Oce jam more frequently in an area just before the output tray that is very difficult to clear. the sensors in the oce are not as accurate and often falsely report the jam location. paper jam sensors in the xerox were much more accurate.
we also have a Oce CS665 that replaced a Xerox docucolor 12. the splash had plenty of issues, we were instructed to only used a heavier paper in it due to issues wearing out some rollers or something. essentially it would jam constantly if we used cheap paper. the oce rarely jams but rather users are often told to restock paper that is already stocked. this is typically resolved by moving paper from one tray to the other then back again. when it comes to printing on the CS665 you really have to trick the printer into printing.
our environment is a generic medium business.
accoutning prints a few thousand pages per day, marketing will print a thousand or so in the busy season and minimal the rest of the time. we only use 8.5x11 8.5x14 and 11x17 paper. the paper we are using is hammermill and boise aspen.
