    Hi

(First of all Im not sure if this is the right place to post this thread if not could the mods plz move it, thanks.)

My name is Tyrone and this is my first post here.

Im young but I know that learning a trade takes allot of practice and allot of experience something that I do not have when it comes to this business.
I hope that there are some people here on the forum that could give me some suggestions and explain a couple of things or at least point me in the right direction.

Im 26 years old and live in Australia, right now Im looking to start up my first business doing short run CD duplication/CD printing and printing of flyers, posters, stickers simple album covers etc… at competitive prices.
Targeting a market of musicians and event promoters that are looking to do shorter runs from around 50-1000, of promo flyers and give away CD demos etc..
the prices have to be very competitive!

So what should I be looking at?

For the CD duplication/Printing I have looked at the ‘Primera Bravo 2’
    http://bavasmusic.com.au/store/primera-bravo-p-1739.html?osCsid=8fd385ffefd0e3e1c349b53a367c9396

Anybody have any experience with CD duplication and CD printing?
Are there any other machines that I should be looking into?

Regarding Printing of Flyers, Posters, Stickers etc… what should I be looking into?
    Ink-Jet Printer? Lazer printer?
Any suggestions of printers that would best suite my needs..?

And I would also need to invest into a cutter right?
    Any suggestion here…?

Sorry for all the questions at once.. and my lack of knowledge,
But I would appreciate if somebody could help guide me into the right directions..

    Kind Regards

    /Tyrone

    Tyrone,

Good on you mate, its always difficult setting up something new especially a business of your own.....its been said before, that the task ahead is not difficult, its the first step which is!!

I've been in the printing industry now for the past 11 years, I'm from South Africa and living and running a small Financial printers in London. I'm not sure what you want to do though. Regarding CD printing obviously theres two ways to go, either printing directly onto the surface of the CD or printing stickers and transfering them to CD surface. I would suggest printing directly onto surface as it cuts down on "bench hand" (poeple you employ to do the naff jobs you dont want to do). As I've been in digital print most of my career I'm not sure whats the best machine to go for the CD part of your business, but look for surface printing and not sticker printing!! As far as your flyers are concerned, look for something in the DC (Docu Colour) range from Xerox. Usually the slower you go in terms of printing speed, the cheaper it becomes to lease these machines. So look for DC6060, DC8080, DC260.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes....all the best

    Julian

I don't know where your volume will be but I'd also look at a Docucolor 242 -- very happy with my new 242 this month. It exceeds my initial expectations in almost every regard in terms of print quality and speed. As far as I know the print quality is very close to identical to the DC260 with a monthly lease payment somewhat lower for the 40 vs. 60 pages per minute in color. (The one drawback I was aware of going in is that registration is not on par with the 700 or the KM5500/6500; I haven't gotten duplex registration quite right yet, but printing and turning from the OHCF I'm very happy so far.)
The gloss quality has also exceeded my expectation and looks great to my eye.

Yes probably so. Get an electric programmable at the minimum. You can get a decent cutter used in the $3000 range. It's the only way to economically do full bleed brochures, flyers, and short-run posters for a professional look and the only way I'd see doing CD booklets, covers, inserts, etc

    Hi tyrone

You are looking for primera bravo 2 is little bit pricey. You can look up into Nexis pro 100 dual dvd drive. That works similar with primera bravo II which you have similar features and cater your business needs. check out more similar products in disc2disc.com

Primera Bravo II is quite expensive. It costs almost 1,250 USD on other stores online. In my opinion you should also try Mircoboards brand for cd printing like Microboards GX Manual Disc Printer PX1-1000. As far as I know this only costs 720 USD at AmericanRecordableMedia.
