Has anyone used these pens to fill a large area (about 3" x 5" in size) on the black plate (offset), to add a solid black fill? How were the results...good, bad? Or is there a better tool to use? Or is it best to adjust the artwork and output a new black plate? Client is looking to save on cost by not having to output new plates.

Is it the client's fualt the black is not black ?

Every one wants to save... that's fine ,
But are the adding pens free ?
    Is the time free ?
Are you responsible to the bad result ?

Some clients need to be educated....

Thanks for your reply. The client is a very important one, so I would like to help them out. They don't need to be educated, I'm looking for the best solution to solve what seems like should be a pretty simple problem. Does any one in the community have experience with this?

    Look at it this way

If the customer is that important that you are willing to do free work and pay for it.....
    then simply make new plates.

Yes , you could do well with the adding pens , but i am not sure you will get a good & even surface , so you could end up with doing the work , pay the cost and get an unhappy customer at the end...

Go for new plates if you need good quality

    Good luck

A 3x5 inch area is quite a lot for addition pens, they're not made for that kind of coverage, they're for small pinholes. A new plate can't cost that much relatively speaking?

I would go the new plate option, a lot safer that way.
