We have a 6501 with Fiery 5.0.1.12, and I am trying to print a job with transparent PSD files placed in Indesign over a black background with a low gradient in it (0-10%). The problem is the PDF file looks fine (even flattened), but when it goes thru the rip, I get a box around all the images with the PSD files in them, or I get a rounded image around the shadow in the image if I used Composite overprint. Konica says it's a driver issue, I need to upgrade my machine. I'm trying to find a workaround or a solution.

I even tried siloing out the psd file and placing it on top of the original, then setting the shadow file to darken or multiply, but still get the same results.

I've tried changing the background gradient to a mix of CMYK, which helped, nut still doesn't give a clean overprint of the shadowed PSD files.

Anybody out there got a similar issue? How did you solve it? I'd like to find a solution short of buying a new machine...

    thanks

Have you tried printing directly from Indesign?
I've had transparency issues with Acrobat and Konica machines but straight a print from Indesign normally fixed it.
