Anyone have some Kodak NexPress per-print cost figures for various coverages? The http://www.colorprintingforum.com/kodak-nexpress/kodak-nexpress-2100-nexpress-2500-video-264.html stresses that this machine "has no click charges" allowing you to more tightly control print costs, which seems a bit in reverse of what we typically consider. How does the NexPress cost per page compare to an offset press for the same coverage (averaged over a sufficient number of prints to take in account durables: on one hand drums, fusers, etc. and on the other blankets, rubber, etc.)?

    Hey renesony,

Where are you going for that training? I'm trying to get trained myself and I'm having a hard time finding a place to train.

    Thanx!

The issue with your costs will ultimately be how particular you are about print quality and how good your operator is. Kodak's "A-4" Model gives you a capped cost per A4 image and an ability to run below it (ORC model) and save money over a traditional click plan. The ORC model is horrible, difficult to reconcile, and costs alot of money up front that you will be reimbursed quarterly up to 80% of what they owe you. You need to buy all your supplies up front and keep around 20K of supplies on hand at any point. We had an ORC on our M700 with a cap of .058 per Image (up to 13" x 19"). Kodak had made mistakes on their initial calculations and we were running at around .075 per impression. They had based their original ORC numbers on A4, but sold them as A3 (all their competition sells price per click regardless of size). We would constantly be owed about $12-15 K dollars from Kodak at any given time. After removing our two lemons, they replaced it with a 2100 plus 5 color for the same cost. We revamped the service contract to be a traditional service model at .058 per impression and we don't have to buy our own parts and supplies.

    NexPress calculation

Who can give a fair opinion on the over all production to cost on this KoDak product..
The profit is based on how the sales dept trains there clients to Digital printing....
Which i must say that nbexpress is pretty close to litho quality....
lots of maintenance , required but haveing deidicated operators to pass the profit margin to management to make it all profitable.....
over_all..... it is very hi_maintence but does give you the quality and the quick turen around.....
and if you get into vaiable data....... extreme machine.

We are currently reviewing the NexPress 2500 and the iGen4. We have just returned a Xerox 800 with the clear ink option. The NexPress as you all know has clear ink plus dimentional and Spot/Full clear coating (on a separate device) plus additional "bells and whistles".

That said the two companies (based on the quotations given) are very much aware of the competitions pricing. As for the actual cost of the machine you can get a five, six, sever year lease, or $1 buyout (which is more expensive). Kodak and Xerox both offer factory refurbished machines and with the right service contact you could do pretty good. On the Xerox be aware of the page size and click cost it is not the same on different series of machines. Some allow for any size, others can have 4 different pricing structures. But if service is something you would like someone else to deal with, Xerox offers complete service plans on many of their machines (Not the iGen4 or 800 Press - both have operator service requirements, however both are backed up by technicians).
