I hope this forum is appropriate for an amateur forum. I have a question about beating the outrageous price of ink.

I have an HP PhotoSmart Premium All-in-one Fax, C309a. It uses HP Vivera dye, with the HP564 (CMYK +photo black) cartridge. It's supposed to be one of the more economical home inkjet printers, but the actual cost is outrageous. My actual ink cost for the first set of cartridges was between 73 and 81 cents/page for mostly text, with some light graphics. For that price I should get 100% ink coverage, not including margins! I bought a set of extra large HP cartridges for $105, and ink consumption appears to about the same.

The InkTec refill kit seems unusually easy to use. It has a cradle with a seal to inject ink into the sponge outlet, without piercing the cartridge.

Has anyone had any experience with this kit and Vivera-compatible dye inks, in terms of practical aspects of use or quality of the ink? (I realize I'll have to turn off the ink-monitoring system when refilling, since HP has effectively prevented resetting the chip.)
