I am looking for a small format printer to produce fine art and limited edition color prints. I am willing to pay up to $1500 for one that does thick paper. I don’t really need to produce large volumes. Any ideas?

Hi Marion - fine art, limited edition colour prints? Without knowing a little more it's hard to suggest a suitable printer but your budget suggests a good quality inkjet printer.

I suppose it depends on your target market...try to sell inkjet prints, even good ones, to a discerning artist and you may find the response very negative.

But here's my vote anyway, try the Epson 2880, click here with careful colour management and good pro level software, (no NOT Publisher!) you will get good results albeit slowly. You'll need archive quality paper and the cost of the inks will be eyewatering if you produce many prints of high ink density.

I get acceptable results from our Canon ix4000 using InDesign/PhotoShop or straight from my Nikon without tweaks!

But if you're going to print volumes of 100+ it's really the domain of top end litho...and that's another league altogether.

    good luck!
