    Hi all
We're planning to install a UPS for SM74-2 with standard delivery, classic center and CPC, without perfector.
Can anybody instruct me how to calculate the optimum rating of the UPS.

    Thank you.

    Hi,
Do you want to have production during electricity shut off or to protect your machine from any damages? It's very important.

    Regards

I just recently saw a similarly configured press with a total power rating of around 75KW, I believe your press must be rated similarly but you must cross check for yourself, usually we go for a 80% load meaning your ups should be rated 20% higher than your requirement, this is taken as a safety factor to avoid overloading. The main price difference will be deciding between backup time of the ups, usually 5 minutes is sufficient for the generator to kick in in case of a power failure, if you want more backup you'll need to have a bigger budget. The backup time will depend on the size of your battery bank.

    Dear Mathew and zahid,

    Thank you for quick replies,
No, no need to do production during power cuts. It is very much adequate to stop the feeder and stop the machine normally or untill generator kicks in. And also it should protect the machine from sudden power dips and fluctuations.
The machine has BLT2 main drive and most probably baumuller motor.

Ah zahid said, I think 5 minutes backup time is more than enough. But I feel that 75KW (~100KVA) is bit of an overkill for a machine with a BLT2 (as I can remember, BLT2 is around 7.5KW, can't remember, please correct me if I'm wrong)

Is there any better brands of UPS you know?

    Thank you..

The main motor alone doesnt represent the true power consumption of the machine but I might be able to give you an accurate figure if you can give me the machine number. Schneider (galaxy series I guess) and Socomec are the ones I have tried, they are good options.

    Hello Nimesh,

I was able to get the power rating for SM 74-2-H, the power rating for your particular machine isnt available so I have looked for something close, the rating is around 36 KW so you'll be good with a UPS rated around 45KW.
