Hi we have recently had to replace a bearing on the impression cylinder operator side of a 5 colour 74 the engineers believe water may have got into it, I don't know how this could happen has anyone else had this happen or a bearing fail if so what was the cause
    Thank you in advance

I experienced this on a 102 and the reason found was the oil supply line to the bearing was choked.

water supply hoses to alcolor pans run through the side frame of the press. A leaky hose dripping into places you wouldn't want water.

Cylinder bearings do go bad from time to time with or without water

Honestly its very rare for SM74 cylinder bearings to go out. I have seen many SM74 with well over 200 million that never had cylinder bearings replaced. When you think about the fact that all presses now have the tapered style bearing on the operator side and how rarely they fail, it is quite amazing. They do fail from time to time from water, debris, lack of lubrication or maybe even a flaw in the bearing itself that doesnt manifest itself for a few years.

We unfortunately had water in the central lubrification on our CD74 about 4 yrs ago due to a leak of water near the varnishing pump.We removed the oil/water and clean manually with small brushers to take away all tracks rust between each gears.Hopefully we didn't need to change any bearings till now but we took about 3 days with 4 guys to clean.bgfx if water was the only cause of your replacement, try to check seriously about the other ones..you will probably see some rusts in other places. If not then, I think you will be safe as they said bearings can go bad with or without water.
