SM52 Anicol spot colours

Looking at purchasing an SM52 Anicolor with coating unit. It has been brought to my attention that it may prove difficult to get the required lab on certain spot colours using 10 gram Anilcolor rollers. Any experience or advise would be most welcome.

 

Yes you need a different Anilox roller with correct cell size for spot color application, otherwise you will not get the desired density and lab values.

 

Hi thanks for the reply Asif. I do believe that 14 gram rollers are needed to achieve the required lab on the stronger colours. Now the question is if a buy a machine with 14 gram rollers will the ink lay down be too great for CMYK meaning we have to then purchase 10 gram rollers and constantly change between the two for spot colours and CMYK?

As far as I know each unit has its own cell size suitable to each colour, if you require printing spot colours then you need to change then anilox roller for higher cell, just to print the spot colour it is to much for normal four colour work,
changing rollers is not the easiest of things to do, it is better to keep the press as a four colour press unless you buy a five colour press and use the spare unit for spot colours,
also you need to be aware of the screen angles of the anilox rollers match the plate making as if you are not using an approved system then the angles may be different and cause a screen clash.

Hi Anthony, i totally agree with what Ade is saying, the best is to have a 5 colors press with 10 gram rollers in all unit and a spare 14 gram roller for heavy spot, a lot of spot colors value lab can be reach with 10 gram screen rollers, there's nothing to worry about that you also have to look at the right ink supplier.

 

Main info of inks for Anicolor press:

-Inks Must be very reactive to changes in temperature.we increase/decrease density only
by temperature(no ink keys).
-Possibility of changing anilox roller when not reaching density needed(higher/lower).
But can still try to use a much higher intensity ink before.can try also to modify the
mixing for spot colour to reach the Lab needed.Here some tips how we found for this
issue but the anicolor is a 'job-eater' when you adapt to it and use it 110%.

 

@daniel. Can we change density in zones on Anicolor or it only changes overall Density with temperature?
