Hi, I am a graphic designer working with a printer and I have a few formatting questions. We want to go straight to the press with a vector file (pdf, eps, ps) however, we can only get a pdf to load in if we run it through photoshop, which rasterizes it. When I try to export any of the above mentioned files straight from InDesign, the RIP rejects the pdf, and says the ps or eps are too large. Any reason why the same file works when run through photoshop, but not when I try to run it straight from InDesign?

    Thanks!

Which RIP do you have / what model is your qmdi? When you send vector, does it help if you select postscript level 2 compatibility instead of level 3? Also have you or can you select to flatten when sending to the RIP.

I asked one of our remaining former DI RIP specialists about your problem. His response is below:

"My guess is that InDesign is adding something, increasing the bounding box of the file larger than 13x17.75.

Also, if he is rasterizing the file, I’d wonder how old the rip is he is sending to."

i do this... in corel... i print in pscript printer with the ppd form the RIP.. look in the RIP in the hard disk a folder called Win2000tool... this work in windows xp.... use this in the corel print option, look for this.. use ppd print and check box... later use find and select the ppd called HDQMDR69.PPD and this have the option for the machine.. always... i print with the .PS file.. because dont have to much lose color profile... but in the delta software delta print manager i create a Queue type Folder... this folder select form the hard disk in the RIP and shared network. i only print in corel with the ppd and check box.. "print at file" this generate a file with extetion .ps, i do only copy this file in the folder shared queue... an wait for the RIP process...u can use this method for print in all program... alway you can instal the print driver in windows xp. only... Vista an 7 dont work... look in the RIP for the drive Postscrip... use this... good llok with this...
