I have a late 90'S SM 102. The display Light on the CP tronic has gone out. Do I need to replace the whole display? or is it fused somewhere?

Well when you are talking about 90''s LCD life time is almost over. But open CPTRONIC lid and on the back find DGP board. On this board a small EPM module is mounted. Sometimes by time passing thus small board become loosen. Turn OFF machine and push the small module and turn the machine ON. if LCD turns ON again you are the winner other wise you have to replace it.

    Good luck,

Thank you for the responce. All connections seem good and still no display light. Do I need to replace the DGP board as well as the display one? or is the LCD just shot?

No, you don't need to replace DGP. Just LCD itself

It sounds like we have the same problem, do you mean that the monitor has gone very dim, or is it completely blank? Ours has gone dim, enough that to properly see the screen without burning our eyes out we turn off the overhead lights. We were told to replace "the neon light", whatever that means.

It depends on type of LCD panels. On early CPTRONIC machines there were two supplier OKAYA and Panasonic which provide LCD panels in Red color back ground. In the late 90's Heidelberg developed DNK2 which were provided by Sharp LCD panels in White color back ground. The recent panels have an integrated back light. In some cases back light power supply gets problem and accordingly panel has gone very dim. Check what type of LCD you have.

    Good luck,

Yes the backlight has gone out. If I look hard enough the panel still displays functions and I am able to use it, Just no longer have backlight. Ours was white color back ground.

Ours too. Do you know how to change the part and what the part number might be?

I was able to locate it online. the part # we have on our unit is PG640400RA4-3
I believe this will work for model year 88-99, but dont quote me on that. also It was very easy to remove old screen, just remember to lable all wires correctly for reinstalation.

Did this solve your back light issue?
