Axis control reads the color control strip (Heidelberg Dipco only) on the press sheet. It will have to be placed on the plate centered, there is a center mark on the strip itself (Its a triangle extended from a centerline) and have 5mm of paper white on each side of the color bar. The machine should come with a Dipco CD for pre-press, it will have all the color control strips you will need. If it does not come with the CD, you can get one through Heidelberg. It has the capability of reading density or grayscale, though it is rare that grayscale can work and be used on bad paper.

We are in Ontario Canada, and have a 2005 CD 6PLX that we purchased used last year
approx 75 million impressions. Well equipped machine including AXIS control, although we can not get it to function
According to Heidelberg the device can scan, and is able to move in all directions, it just does not take a reading from the bar. They have suggested replacing numerous boards, cables etc at huge cost. Any ideas on where I should be looking for a solution? It seems to me that since it works mechanically then the issue would be in the software..?
    any guidance is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds to me like Heidelberg already gave you a solution, they just didnt tell you what you want to hear.
