we have had a ink motor malfunction on one of are units. We replaced the motor but the error is still there. Now we have replaced this motor before 2 years ago without problems. Now we have another unit with a malfunction . wondering any other reason for this malfuction and why they won't clear when the motor is replaced. I am thinking maybe ink key is gummed up and not moving thou are ink liners are nice and clean.

the ink liners are just the first layer of defense in a Heidelberg ink fountain as you must already know if you've had to replace a motor. One of the things I was taught was that when closing down a fountain to lessen ink feed you should not continue lowering the keys once the last diode reaches the bottom.

When installing a new ink zone motor, you cant just take one off and put another one on. You need to make sure the mechanical position of the key is in the same place and the ink zone motor thinks it should be. The only way to do this is to plug in motor and leave it hanging while you position the motor at its lowest position at the consol, completely closed. Next, remove the white coupling that the motor connects with, it will slip right off the ink key itself. Use a small screwdriver and turn the key manually counter clockwise and clockwise to make sure it moves freely, if not there is ink that has contaminated the threaded spindle. If it does move freely, turn it completly clockwise and then back 3/4 of a turn. Finally, mount the motor and your good to go.

any other reason why a ink key error would come up? we had another one go. so I move to another unit the problem did not follow the motor it works fine in another unit. so I check the movement of the key with a screw driver its is moving freely .
