Default Lamination Problem

Hi, I'm bit of a printing novice and I hope someone might be able to help with a problem I have with some hard back books that were recently produced in China. On first impression the goods are fine but it was quickly realised that when the covers were touched or scratched, the lamination glue appears to crack or blister. To me it looks like the adhesive has become solid and the effect is the lamination separating from the paper.

I'm trying to find out the possible causes as I have my suspicions, but as mentioned I'm no expert. Only other thing to note is the container was delayed at customs and was held at the docks for 6 weeks....this meant a total of 10 weeks in a container during the early part of a hot summer.

If anyone's got some pointers I would appreciate hearing them as I am keen to avoid this next time. Thanks JB
