    Qm di gear streaks

Hi, i am new here. I have a 1997 qm di 46-4. When trying to run a one color letterhead with a 2 inch wide solid bar all across the top of the sheet....i get gear streaks over the whole blanket and they do show up on the printed sheet. First i tried the #4 unit (yel) and then tried the #2 unit (cyan). Spot color was pms 341 medium tack mixed by toyo. I got the same results on both units. Will this press only run 4 color process?????? My chilled rollers are at 20 degrees centigrade as checked by infrared thermometer while running. Blankets are packed properly. Bearers are clean. Gear drive is clean. Ink rollers are set properly. Problem does not appear when printing 4 color process jobs. All help appreciated!!!!!!!!

It could be the actual ink mix as you do not have any issues running the process colours.
You could try the same mix from VanSon and see what happens.
The DI will run special PMS colours.

Thanks! I thought that might be the case as the pms 341 ink appeared a bit on the thin side in its viscosity. I will try the Van Son. Regards, Alphaprinter

    QM DI streaks

    Hi,

maybe you can add anti toning paste into ink.
I use this paste when printing spot colors.
In case that must print spot color - i am using normal ink for water-offset
and add 2-3% anti toning paste into it. This works well (allmost as waterless ink).
If there are large ink coverage i must clean blankets every 1000-1500 sheets.
Anti toning paste you can buy in Heidelberg or try this:

    Good luck,

Thanks ganzman72.....I am glad to know I am not alone with this problem. I have been racking my brains (and press) to fix problem. I will need to try the anti-toning additive suggested by QMDavor.

The ink company we were using game me a little bottle of liquid to "thickin" the ink.I think the mix was, add a teaspoon per pound.I still couldnt get rid of it until i started directly applying the liquid onto the rollers. Then when it came back i would add more drops til it went away.Never had any problems with process, just pms. Also,do NOT run your heater when doing pms,The cooler the shop was,the easier it was to print pms.Just my opion,GL

    Anti toning additive ...

    Hi Alpha,

when you start using anti toning paste be careful with it.
Do not add paste into ink in fountain directly, it is better that you make mix outside press and then put that mix into ink fountain.
Different inks need different quantities of additive.
If you add too small % - it will still tonning, if you add too much - then will also be a problem (ink will looks like chewing-gum).
When using anti toning paste you will probably must turn higher ink stroke than usualy do.
If you have high coverage you will probably must clean blankets more often than usualy (from my praxis every 1000 sheets) but it also depends of more other things.

Hope that this will be helpful.
