In our GTO the compressor has two pressure switchs.
One controls the pressure in the tank and the other produces an electrical signal to the press masin control telling it that is ready to go...
Sounds like the frist one is ok(because there is pressure) and MAYBE the second pressure switch has gone bad.
It's a US $600 part so you might want to have a service guy inspect it before buying it in find out it was a loose cable somewere.

    Hope that hepls

Jan, ive ran a heidelberg pro 46 and is currently running a presstek ryobi with similar problems. If you take of the covers on the off side of press you will see the mechanical workings of the impression units.Where the levers resonsible for putting your machine into impression are piston type mechanisms, closely veiw at a safe distance with covers off press and watch the piston joint areas,i strongly suspect that your losing pressure when the press is in impression, hence you pnuematic pump must be permanently on? Am affraid it may be an engineers job.
Jan,if this is the case then i advise that in future before you shut press down that you bleed off all the pressure in the pnuematic compressor as it accumulates water to which is fed to your piston joints probably prematurely damaging them.. good look
