    Hi,

I have a QMDI Classic that I purchased not too long ago and I've been printing jobs on it the hard way: burning my PDF to a CD, sticking it into the RIP and sending the job over to the DI. This was a quick and easy way to try out the press and run some jobs on it but its not very convenient. I have what I believe is the original RIP that came with the press. I have a small network consisting of 2 Windows computers joined together by a hub.

How do I go about properly setting up my Windows PCs to print directly to the RIP? Do I need additional hardware to properly network this press?

    Thanks

    a network specialist can help

At first it seemed very complicated to me but a person wich knows about network helped me, it took some time but he could do it, as he knew how the computers comunicate to each other.

Let me try to explain how he described to me the solution:

The rip program reads files and convert these files into alanguage that the press can understand. The Rip is set in other computers a anothe printer in the network as it will be your HP deskjet or so,
The RIP should be connected to the network as any machine you want to "talk" to your RIP.
Then you install the "controllers" or PPD which you must have with the original programs when you bought the HQDMI.

Then network person will install a new printer (it apears in my computers as HDM_QMDI) and will set the printer to print to a file (software persons know much more how to do this) the file set has to be into the RIP, that means your computer has to have permition to have access to the RIP, network permitions are controlled in the Rip and the specialist know how to do it.
You know you have make this step correct when you can see in your PC control panel the QMDI as another printer

Now you have to tell the QMDI program where to find the jobs you are sending. The program will authomatically process the job
In the QMDI program there is a tool where you set all your preferences like where to find spool jobs, how you are going to recive it like in 90 degrees etc.

Once you are connected you only have to play with the options.

With these you can send to print your jobs from any program you like , Illustrator, corel draw etc.

These you can do it in any cokmputer that is connected in the network PC or MAC

    Hope these is usefull

I have a network problem with mine as well. I can get the network to talk to the printer and rip the files but I can't access them when I go to the printer. I see the ripped files but am unable to select them. Here is a screen shot of what I see. Any ideas? I also can not get the "?" button to activate anything. my mouse wont get me to the desired screens or buttons, so I have to tab on the keyboard to get to anything. Is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

the red color of your list means your rip installation was made for the different press as you have.
Classic has 8 colors zones and Plus 12. It's the only problem.
You have to install you rip with the suitable setting.

THANK YOU so much! You have no idea how much I have been racking my brain trying to figure this out. Do you have a classic or a plus?

You can setup shared Windows printers and then use those to print from both Macintosh and Windows computers to the RIP.

There are instructions on the following page:
    http://rti-rips.com/Support.html
See 'Sharing Printers from a Windows RIP'. You may also want to update your PPD at the same time.
