I recently went to a NELMA convention (label manufacturers) to look into some new ways to print vinyl and other label substrates.

I saw some machines from Primera and from Oki. The Primera machine was able to Print roll to roll and then had a second system that would laminated, Plot, and weed vinyl and poly sheets. They ran about 55kUSD for the two sets.

Anyone know any other digital roll to roll systems?

I use primera cx/fx1200 since september. printing on the rolls quite ok but had some problems with finishin/cutting. Whole cutting unit was warranty replaced. Now it's ok. the only proble for me is the price of cartridges. I dont understand why should I pay almost twice a price of the same lexmark cartridge. Primera cx 1200 = lexmark c782n.
Anyway, whole stuff prints and finishes good. ;)

Sound somewhat promising ;) I think we need to make a choice somewhere in digital roll to roll. I'm burning up vinyl sheets in my canon digital press as we speak.

I used to print on polyester (if this is the right word). It works. All you have to remember is the temperature which in mine is 180C. Some glues will melt. You can also adjust the material stretch factor in the press, it helps. ;)
Sorry for my english tech. vocabulary :)

Has anyone looked at a production UV inkjet system for the application. I have seen the DICE unit by PPSI and it is sold as a system and a retrofit for a flexo press. Good quality speeds at 80 fpm, and inexpensive running costs.

hello, are you using the toner made for CX1200 or the Lexmarkc782n.
If you are using the Lexmark how does that work on your CX1200?

    Lexmark / Remanufactured Toners

Just to let you know we tried using Lexmark toners. You have to re-chip them to get Primera to recognise them correctly. Printing was OK but colour registration was not. We found the colour differences (when comparing to original toners) to be too difficult to live with. We would have needed 2 sets of artwork one for Primera Toners and one for Lexmark Toners and whilst the colour reproduction was uniform and consistent, we would have spent a lot of time re-tweaking artwork to work properly with Lexmark Toners!

It's just my thoughts on the matter. Hope this helps.

Has anyone used any remanufactured toners?
    Thanks,

For the question of price I can suggest use remanufatured toner cartridges of this company www.tolabel.com ( Italy )
If you contact them buy email to info@tolabel.com they can also send you a test serie of toners for a promotional price, try, I do so.
They produce high capacity toners 16500 copies:
    Toner Black 57401 - 16500 copies
    Toner Cyan 57402 - 16500 copies
    Toner Magenta 57403 - 16500 copies
    Toner Yellow 57404 - 16500 copies
The quality is like original primera, and you can use on Primera Cx1000 and Primera Cx1200
A lot of customer use these cartridges in Italy and in ather country in europe and all they work very good with their remanufatured toners.

I know this is an older thread, but I've been working with the CX/FX1200 for the last two years and find them to be some of the worst machines I've had to deal with. While the CX1200 is passable, with the exception of the printer constantly loosing communication with the computer, the FX1200 ranges from almost passable to hair-pulling awful. While issues with the inconsistent wear on the plotting blades is annoying, the main crux of my trouble with it stems from the slitter blades and how often, even with new blades, they will snag on the outside edges causing catastrophic line breaks. This machine needs constant supervision, to the point of me hand-feeding the excess for hours on end.
    This machine is a zero!

Our Panorama UV Inkjet press is roll to roll and regularly prints on vinyl. The stand alone unit utilizes CMYK + White and runs at top speeds of 50 m/min.

Extremely versatile unit with upwards of 93% up-time.
