Thread: Refilling my Ink Cartridges

Hi, I have a lot of refillable ink from my old printer, and I'm wondering if it's compatible with another printer. My old one is an Epson Stylus Photo 925 and my new one is a Canon Pixma IP4500. What would happen if I refilled my Canon cartridges with the Epson ink? If they are not compatible, then is there any risk of damaging the print head?

I have no experience with the canon pixma IP4500 but I would be extremely, extremely surprised if this worked. Even if by some miracle it didn't clog, print very poorly due to different size/type nozzles, or bleed/leak out, I think the pigmentation and properties of the inks would be sufficiently different that your stock print profile wouldn't deliver very good results. I would only try this if you can afford to make the printer into an anchor because cleaning it up could be a real mess if it does bleed or clog. Unless you're in a location where you can't ship, selling the old ink on ebay or similar and buying new for the specific printer would be the way to go. I've had mixed results (some poor, some perfect) with generics, but at least they try to hit the specific print head's needs.

Epson and canon inks are completely different in their form and i wouldnt do it, trying to save a few quid could / would end up costing alot more.

Epson and Canon have completly differnt print head technology
the Epson uses Piezo and Canon uses Bubblejet

i refill my canon with canon compatibles and im sure if you use good quality epson compatibles it would be ok. But they will never be as good as oem ink and if that quality is ok with you then its fine. like i said i refill my canon, but as i do large format work on it banners and canvases and such, its fine for me.

How to refill CISS tanks? Where can extra ink for CISS be bought? Can somebody suggest a good vendor?

well i thought id try something after reading on here.
i refilled my canon with epson ink, deposits are larger and the colours are slightly + off. but it is possible. now back to the proper ink.

I'm using compatible ink from **************, seems to work ok so far. It takes ages before I refill and I don't touch the cartridges at all. It works with my Epson, but also, easily with Canon, HP & Brother models.

Have you done any fade, bleed, or smudge tests vs. the oem inks?

I bought my printer in Prague, where I had my ICC profile set, so now printing quality is better than with original cartridges. I work with Photoshop & print my images without worrying about how much ink I wasted. It looks great. I’ve heard that with a standard ICC profile the difference in quality between CISS & original ink is about 2-5%, but it’s only noticeable when you’re printing using large formats, A3 & bigger
