Default Which Laser printer should I purchase

Hey Guys

I am new to this forum, but I am sure glad that I found it.
I need help, I am now starting my own business of Graphic Design and Printing.

I need to purchase a Laser Colour Printed that can print a little bigger than 12" x 18".

I have used the Canon IR3200 but have had lots of problems with the registration and colour. Also I never get the glossy finish although I use glossy paper I think the ink base caused that, Its just always flat...and the paper jams OMG I have had hell.

So for sure I don't think I wanna try that again. Please advise which would be the best brand of printer to purchase taking into consideration that I need my prints to be glossy when I need that.

Thanks a million

I'm also looking for a color laser that can deliver a nice glossy print, but I'm a bit surprised about your IRC3200 paper jam comment -- we have 1.4 million 11x17 prints on ours now and I would say we have 1 jam per 10,000 sheets only. I think a tech visit to isolate the jam issue would save you a lot of grief as I bet it could be solved for a few hundred dollars.

But as far as the finish flatness - I agree. It's nice when you want a non-gloss look but I'd love to find a machine that would be as solid as our 3200 has been for us, somewhere in the same price per print range, and have the ability to do gloss. I'll be watching this thread for suggestions.

Hi Jeff

Thanks for your comments, I have also been advised by a local guy here thats been in the business for a while..he thinks I should get the HP5550, he thinks it works well with heavy stock and glossy. I am currently looking into it.

Thanks again.

By the way I am also looking for binding equipment, embosser and I want to do foiling, I know of the big equipment for the commercial printers... any suggestions for me?

These four seem too small to me for commercial printing. For example I believe with the Phaser 7760 you'd be spending 4x as much as with a docucolor under service & supplies contract if you printed any volume.
