does anyone know how to prevent ink transferring off uncoated paper onto your hands? my printer has just suggested lamination which makes it a bit pointless using uncoated in the first place.

How about an overall varnish? Oil based or water based does the trick.

Over time (months) oil based may yellow depending on the quality of the varnish. Water based tend to be the most 'neutral' but may not seal as effectively when printed in-line - the exception being water based emulsion coatings applied on a dedicated coater.
