Have a new 6010 and am having problems with getting smooth color gradients - there is banding and there are also areas in which the color is blotchy and muddy. Have printed this file many times before on our old C6000 without any problems - same paper (14 pt C2S) and same file, very different results. Have tried to work with dither patterns, but can't seem to get right combination. Canon seems to think it may be the impose software, but I also set these up manually (business cards, 24 up) and it made no difference. Help.

you did not mention linearizing and calibrating both via the printer and the use of i1 in CWS?

What controller are you running? If you are using Fiery, PLEASE make sure your operators are leaving the DPI setting on 600dpi. Do not change it to 1200dpi. This is a big no no if you are having color problems and mottled or graininess. Also are they calibrating correctly? Calibration is a 4 step process on the imagepress, if they are skipping any one of those steps quality could be inconsistent.

Sounds like the same problem I have, see my thread on muddy solid colors on the 6010. I believe it is a chronic issue with the 6010/7010

    hi
for gradients first you must make sure that a patch update is installed on fiery to improve the gradient issue.
then you must do shading correction and autogradation on canon highgrade 100 gsm
in fiery when checking the job properties in the color section you can find basic color and expert, you select basic and on top you can find
cmyk profile setting try to choose one time bypass conversion and print ,if result is not good try selecting colorwise off, this should work.
as for the muddy result it would probably be caused by the paper, try different paper and try to differentiate the result.
or try to use less CMY and replace with black.

Trying changing your colour setup (in Command Workstation device centre) to source "none" if you are running a Fiery driven RIP. If you have a newer RIP there is an option to “Use embedded profile when present”. Use this if you have it and set the source to your most common source space.

I find gradation gives a horrible print and have set both my Graduation and Resolution to High Resolution on the engine (found under Additional Functions->System Settings->Device Management->Dither Patterns).

These two changes have dramatically improved our print quality.

Here is a brochure showing the various pattern the machine creates. The driver/command workstation settings just assign which option (graduation or resolution as set on the engine) is assigned to which item within the document and do not actually change the patterns themselves.

BTW I have my engine set to 1200 with no issues.
