I am hoping someone can shed some light on this so that I can prevent it in the future.

I have an 1110. Yesterday I had about 1000 copies of a pdf to print. It took almost all day! Every time the machine would stop (weather it needed more paper, jammed, double fed, or sometimes for seemingly no reason at all), it would just lock up. I would have to power cycle it with the main power switch. It just kept happening. I would try restarting the RIP (model J100) along with the 1110 sometimes, but that didn't help either. The strange thing is, after doing some testing, it became aparent that it was only happening with that one pdf. All others would work fine. I had a Canon tech come out and he updated the firmware on I think both the RIP and the 1110 (Im not 100% he updated both of them, but I think that is what he said). Still no change.

This all strange to me, because I thought that once a file was processed by the RIP, the file type no longer mattered. I thought that the RIP just sent printer language to the 1110. The machine would have no idea that it even originally was a pdf, right? Has anyone ever heard of this? What could be the cause?

    Thanks in advance!

Is this job variable data? Haven't run a 1110 but if its anything like the other Canons this may help. It's a work around for problem files that Canon recommends. Try printing the file to a mailbox on the machine and run it from there. For some reason this has been known to resolve Issues reguarding the rip. Hope it works for you, please post and let us know.
