We have experienced a 40% increase in cost of service since we installed our C7000 2 years ago. Is this the norm around the country, or is just isolated to our area Birmingham, Alabama. Our Local service companies blame it on Canon, saying the cost of the toner is higher on this machine than there competitors equipment.

Typical in the contracts I've signed is maxium 10% increase per year (which of course compounds up itself - i.e. 100%, 110%, 121%, 133%, 146%) and usually right about that.

I prefer now to pay a bit more in the first years and choose a fixed click contract for the term of the contract so I don't end up with machines I'm still paying on that have become cost prohibitive to use in their later years.

In Italy, Canon try to increase the click price from 0.50 to 0,75, only after 2 years, but I stop Canon with my lawyer

This is our third year with our Canon C7000 VP. We bought it used January of 2010 for cash - no lease. At that time the service contract including toner and all service supplies (i.e. everything but paper) was $.05 for color and .009 for black and white per impression (or side) of 13 x 19. I had been told at the Graph Expo in Chicago those were typical rates - nickle per side color, and penny per side black only. In April 2011 our service organization (not Canon - we use Applied Imaging) increased it by 11% to .0555 and .00999 respectively. Now April 2012, they just announced it will increase again by 10%. I came here to see it that was out of line (considering what I had been told at the show in Chicago) but it seems better than some stories I read on this site.
Since you don't mention your base starting click charge, I have no idea if the 40% increase ends up high or not. If you started at 4 cents per side color, then you are still lower than us. Can anyone else report their ongoing click charges on this (or similar digital toner machines like Ricoh 9000 and Minolta bizhub or similar Xerox)?

We have a Konica Minolta C5500 and our 3-year service contract ends in July 1012. It is going up 10%. Your rate looks attractive. We are charged roughly $.06 per color impression for 8.5 x 11 (or $.12 per color for a large sheet). B&W is about $.022 per 8.5x11 click and doubles for larger sheets.

When we started with Ikon our contract allowed rates to increase by 10% each year for the 5-year contract, and they did each year. So we started at 8.9 cents and ended up keeping it an extra year but it was over 14 cents at the end.
When we we signed up with xerox we opted to have a contract fixed for the length of the contract and paid a slightly higher amount up front to have a fixed click instead of a click that can increase each year. It depends on how you plan to use the machine which works out better for you overall; if your volume will increase on the machine, stay constant, whether you keep newest machines for high quality work and use older machines for volume workhorses or whether you prefer to put as much as possible on a brand new machine and let the machines near the end of their contracts become backup/spares.

Yes they have which is why Ricoh forced Icon to dump their rival competitor Canon.
