We have the opportunity to purchase a used Canon Imagepress C1 machine with less than 200k prints for a reasonable price.

Just wondering if anybody could provide advice on experiences with this machine, overall print quality (compared to competitor machines) and what to look out for in terms of maintenance, as the machine will not be on contract.

Our print volume is not very high (we are fully aware of the machine's speed). My only concern is there are a few forum comments about the machine needing a lot of servicing. However, could this be due to running the machines too hard. :D

How reasonable is the reasonable price?

Have you had the seller run a some sample prints from your files that represent what you will be printing on it?

I would not touch it. I have had one for 3 years and it has been down more than up. I have even had Berwicks that sold it to me want to walk away from the Services Contract as it was costing them so much to keep running. We have hardly used it and no where near its duty cycle. The ImagePRESS C1 is a LEMON. Run away from it......
Everyone I know that has one has the same trouble of constant breakdowns.
I wish I could off load mine but still 1 year to go on Rental.

Just to back up my statement above.
Machine is 3 years old done 153428 Colour Click & 400992 B/W 2 years to go rental agreement and BBC Berwicks Sunshine Coast has canceled the service agreement. Leaving me in contradiction with my rental agreement with Canon Finance.

We bought a C1 new 3 years ago and I would have to say it has been a "mixed" experience. For low volume it produces nice quality prints. If you can do some maintenance on your own and have Canon service available for a reasonable cost you can probably do ok. Keep it in a room with low temperature and humidity to reduce machine problems.

Where currently working with the C1 and C1+ and I don't really am too pleased with them.
About 14ppm, so not fast and about once in to weeks we have a maintenance-operator from Canon over.

personally i wouldnt buy any digital machine without having a service contract on it.. you could end up with a rather big paper weight sitting in the corner
