    Problem with IRC3220

I have a Canon IRC3220 printer, and when I print in ever type of paper, the printer is prints gray background in sheet. My drum units are New, but have 26% of your lifetime.
    I send 2 sample images.

Anybody know to resolve this issue?

    thanks

For what it's worth whenever we have background problems with our IRC 3220 we re-install the drum unit or replace it.

Have had several fail before 100 reading on the service counter.

usually the magenta drum unit fails early.

We take our irc3200/3220 drums to between 180 to 200+% yield (and after around 200% yeild they sometimes shoot to a reported ~450% yield within a couple thousand prints and become unpredictable); we do sometimes get this kind of backgrounding once beyond ~150%... almost always a full auto gradation will solve it and we can get an additional 5,000 to 10,000 prints out; we try and pull a print every few hundred beyond 150% as they'll sometimes start backgrounding again several times or drop out once beyond this range. Sometimes replacing the drum is the only solution for us.

    I will Try

    Thanks for everbody,

I will replace the drum unit.

The black drum unit with a durability is very small, around 3,000 copies. Someone achieves a better result?

I have another issues, anybody can help me?

    01. When I calibrating the C-1, what is better? Use a kodak grayscale to auto-adjust, or perform a complete adjust (visual cal)?
In the complete adjust (visual cal) I don't know how do the "limits and 30% match" sheet.

    02. When you print using only the black, even with new drum unit, the color 100% black leaves with many spots and is not plateau.

    03. I'm using the EFI Postscript Driver v 2.1, but the dot printed is greater than using PCL 6.0 driver. But, in PCL, when I send a print, I need send only 1 copy, but if I send 10 copies, the filesize is 10 times higher.

    thanks again.

We get around 8,000 "good" 11x17 prints, 8,000 "ok" 11x17 prints, and then 10,000 "poor" prints out of each black drum. I rotate them so I use the drum when it's brand new and "good" for pages that include black and white photographs or gray solids. Then I use then when they're "ok" for pages that include solids but not large areas of medium gray and photos that are more contrasty and easier to print on this machine. Sometimes I have to rotate the page 180 degrees to avoid streaks or rotate in a different drum if a streak in the "ok" phase of the drum's life hits a medium gray area of the page. Then I try and use the final ~10,000 11x17 prints for text only or line-art pages to use the drum up.

Can you post a scan of a test print to show us exactly what you're talking about here? We get some streaks running in the 17" long direction as the drum ages and also some jitter (uneven density forming "lines" in the 11" short direction) due to gear jitter of the machine which comes and goes.) But we can usually lay down a solid black that is ok, though often with older drums we have to increase the black density on the control panel of the machine itself (adjustments, print quality, levels) to get a nice soild black.

We only did a calibration of the imagepass C1 once or twice using the visual cal and kodak gray strip. Then every day we do a full auto gradiation adjustment from the machine itself using the auto gradiation adjustment -> full which prints 3 11x17 sheets of c m y k test strips scanned one after another. For us the simple full auto gradation adjustment compensates for environmental and drum changes fine without having to mess with the rip calibration.

I can't answer this one -- is there a collate checkbox on the driver checked -- if so try toggling that as sometimes in the past with other printer drivers I've found some odd behavior where the collate button on a windows print driver things it needs to do it via software unaware of the machine capeability.

We started off in 2002 using the pcl driver for our imagepass c1 / canon irc 3200 but I switched to the postscript driver. Unlike our other RIPs where the postscript and pcl drivers match color quite closely, with the C1/3200 combination I always got cooler and less punchy output from the pcl driver while the postscript driver delivered slightly warmer highlights and midtones and a bolder looking print (though at the sacrifice of some shadow detail that the pcl driver is more gentle with that gets compressed with the postscript driver.) The postscript though adds freeform for name/data merging and people here liked the output from it slightly better so I went that way and can't remember much about the pcl driver (likely I was using a couple versions back of the pcl driver so didn't experience the glitch you now have at hand.)
