Is image length (i.e. gripper to tail) affected by the caliper of the substrate. Lets say from .004 to .024????

In theory it shouldn't be. Print length is determined by the rolling circumference of your plate surface. This circumference with a properly packed blanket should duplicate itself on the blanket. If your print length is being altered after that point id say its due to dimensional instability with your paper or movement in the grippers during impression.
