    Hi Guys,

Having adhesion problems when printing on synthetic stocks for IML. Most jobs are fine but we get the odd one that picks the ink off at molding stage. Can anyone recomentd a good ink, fount & aqueous to use. I am printing this on a convential offset press SM102CD6+LX but think our suppliers down here at the bottom of the earth I think are not up to it. So any help or recommendation of suppliers would be great.

    Hi TC Rex,

If using conventional inks then are you using foiling inks? These will help with drying. You could try a drying aditive also. But adhesion is mostly to do with the Dyne rating of the stock and wether or not the ink operates within the dyne range for the stock. this is also a problem when printing with UV inks as some won't adhere to some synthetic stocks due to the dyne rating. Another thing to find out is if the stock has been corona trated as this can also affect the adhesion. Changing the fount might help with the drying, but maybe not with adhesion. Ask you paper supplier and ink supplier whether the ink/paper are compatible.

    Hi NGR,

Thanks for post mate. Yes we are using foil inks with added driers, our dynes is 38 ( maybe a bit low ) & stock is corona treated. Because everything else we have printed at the same time worked i'm starting to think that it is a stock problem or the way it is being stored at the moulder. We export this stuff to Asia and have no idea how it is handled up there.

Could it be old stock? Corona treatment has a limited life in which you can print on it. Running under UV lamps prior to printing can help, this will require cylinder on impression. I wonder if its black ink youre having picking trouble with? Running the colour weight light can help.
