We have one. we quit using it for the time being until we can get it located in a better spot. we are in a pretty small building and the spray powder from the presses really affects it badly, weakening the bulb and throwing the scans off. But when it was working it generally worked pretty good for longer runs. not really any good for short runs. We have a couple of guys that were relying on the thing to do their make ready and would blindly just accept any change it wanted to make. Once we couldn't use it, the button pushers were screwed, the didn't know what to do. It's a great tool, but it is just a tool.

We have two Image Control units, one next to a SM102-10P and SM102-6 both of which are producing a lot of spray and one in another unit next to an XL105 and CD102 both with coating units producing very little spray. The unit next to the SM102 presses gets regularly cleaned but still comes up with advisory errors in relation to the light source, the other unit works perfectly all the time with no errors. If you have the space it is worth keeping the unit away from any spray. Image control is a superb bit of kit especially if the presses have colour assist (ink optimisation) since this will allow you to get to your colour standard within two or three pulls, at a minimum you will need to ensure that the press characterisation curves are harmonised with your prepress interface profiles to ensure you are pretty much there from the first pull.

Speaking as a used machinery dealer. I have to write and say that each installation of this product, that we've been involved, with has been very successful.

The addition of automated quality control for printed product makes a big difference to each company that has introduced it.

I have seen Image Control used as part of an ISO 12467 implentation for complete closed loop quality control. If you, or your company are seeking Blue Chip Clients, the ability to guarantee colour is a major contributor to customer confidence.

If you'd like more information, get in touch.

    UV Press B2 - 6 colour

This is off post - forgive me, I can offer several machines.
What age / budget / Manufacturer do you prefer?
Supplied in a container or installed at site?
Send a mail to andy@albionmac.co.uk and I'll be sure to help.

There are of course independent, closed loop systems that work with most manufacturers.
If you don't already have Pre Press Interface installed, or your HB presses don't have the required licenses unlocked, then you should really consider the alternatives.
Also - if you have a press room with different manufacturers, one system reporting back to a central store with each using the same software surely has to be a leap forward in quality control.
