Id be looking at what else might be worn that has you needing to change them. Cam followers come to mind off the top of my head.

Life expectancy is variable, depending on a few factors. Given the age of the press, it's likely they are in need of replacement. Tom has a valid point, though. To answer your question re. replacement procedure, suggest you don't do it. Nothing magic about it, just a number of techniques that really aren't within the realm of someones ability not having done it before. Not only positioning and squaring to the pad, but setting procedure would be difficult without the proper tooling.

80 million is a good rough estimate on life of urethane grippers. Ive seen them last as much as 130 million and have seen signs of wear as little as 30 million. If your seeing a bit of a slur and your grippers have over 80 million on them, gripper replacement will be needed in the near future. Sometimes readjusting grippers will buy you a bit if time, but you will need to replace them. I do not advise replacing them yourself for reasons already mentioned.

heidelberg has come in every year to G7 certify this press but with slurs they have to be replaced. we want to change out these grippers and go to all steel so were not going through this every year. they told me they no longer put these grippers on the newer presses.
