    Hi,

Since ~2 weeks I'm looking desperately for a printer for my new startup, unfortunately I couldn't find anything yet. That's why I would would like to know if you can help me. (I may breaking the rules on colorprintingforum, I am very new so my apologies)

I basically want to build a service where the customers can upload their own photos and write a message then I would like to print this message and picture and make it look like a real postcard (similar to the tourist postcards everywhere) and send it per snail-post.

I'm software engineer so the service is not a problem, but to be honest I have no idea about printers (affordable), inks, papers, etc. I don't know what to buy...

I really appreciate if you can help me with this. And please let me know if you need some help with computers (specially with Macs and software :) )

Thank you in advance and best regards,

A Konica Minolta Biz Hub will do the job for you.

A Konica Bizhub will NOT do the job for you - I have had very bad experience with Konica Minolta, for starters, the maximum weight of card it can take is only 270gsm which is nowhere near the weight you need for postcards. Also, it has a stupid page size maximum, which is part way between A3 and SRA3, which means you cannot get proper bleeds and standard sized papers from most suppliers, will have to be cut down before you can use them (if you order SRA3).

I would recommend any of the Xerox DC machines, they take heavy card (I put 350gsm silk through mine with absolutely no problems) - also the toners are cheap and last for ages. There's a great supply company who offer any parts for these machines at WAY below Xerox standard prices and the chap who owns the company knows these machines outside in so he can help you solve problems without the need for a Xerox contract or expensive engineers.

Hope this helps, need any more info, I'd be happy to help you if you pm me.

A problem with any laser will be scuffing through the post office. At least the USPS uses sorting wheels that put far more pressure and abbraision on pieces than a printer's rollers and so fused on toner frequently scuffs off. The affordable inkjet presses for envelopes currently don't have enough quality for photo postcards in my opinion. Maybe a custom inkjet application (that will cost big bucks).

Hello. I've started getting asked to produce postcards. I can use my Canon to print them but just wondered if anyone had any reputable suppliers. I see loads on the internet, most appear to be matte but I think customers may want glossy on one side and matte on the other. No idea what to charge for these so appreciate any pointers, please.
