Just like it says. I am lead pressman on a 8-color speedmaster, and just wondering who all works on these beasts.

  • Hi,

Worked as a Heidelberg demonstrator for the last 20 years & have now gone freelance, what help would you like.

    Regards.

I just want to chat. :)

I print alot of yearbooks for schools in the U.K. and around the world. Seems after 20 years in the printing industry, I have almost seen it all!!

The 8-color I run is a 2001 model, and has it's challenges to say the least. We are in the midst of pulling rollers and cleaning things up for a new year of printing. I always like the feel of new rollers that are set properly. Makes for fun printing.

    Over and out.:)

    You can't beat new rollers........lol

The earlier long perfectors did have a few issues but they got better, as did the ink formulations.

    Regards.

Im new to the site and a young pressman but I am a 8 color perfector operator. Hope this site can help me with any problems I run across without calling Komori and looking like an IDIOT!!

    How long you been printing?

What kind of ink you using?

Komori eh? I'm a Heidelberg guy, but spent a few years feeding on a 4 color Komori. Worst years of my life!

Im a new pressman just started running the press about two years ago.
Ink? Vanson Pro. Heidelbergs are caddies. I fed for one about six years ago couldnt get the symbols down. ha ha. Komoris are alright they got there issues.

When I ran a 5c Komori we ran Pertech ink. It ran really nice and was a stay open formula. Quick to dry even with heavy coverage. I liked it better than VanSon and Superior. The only thing I didn't like was the constant pigment change in the yellow and magenta between batches. We did a lot of repeat jobs and sometimes the color was a ***** to match to the last run. Other than that good stuff. As far as the Komori, nice running press but the electronics can drive you nuts chasing problems down.

Hey, as for electronics the Heidelbergs have their share of ******** issues too!

We are in the midst of testing a new ink from SunChemical called Liberty ink. It's also a stay open type of ink that's supposed to only dry when air is removed (sheets in the pile). We had to try a different etch/sub, but it seems to be working good now.

I'm a Heidelberg guy too, also spent some time being punished feeding on a 5 color Komori. Prints a nice sheet but sucks to be the feeder!

Liberty ink is great on coated stocks ! A bit strong though.

I have ran serveral presses in the Speedmaster line. 1995 sm74-5p1. 1996 sm102-8 p2p4(two perfectors). 1993 sm72 6p2+L with IST u.v. 1998 sm74 8p4. 1994 sm102 2zp. 1999 CD102-4 with cp2000. 1997 CD102 6+L with Graphix u.v. I have ran mostly Flint and K&M inks. The new hybrid inks are great to work with. Recently started using some INX Ecopure. This ink has the fastest set speed i have ever seen and stays open better than the KM Relay. I love to talk shop so if anybody wants email me "ireplaceable77@yahoo.com"
