Default Question about Thermographic printing

Hello,

I run a letterpress studio here in NY and I want to expand my business into thermography. I got a great deal on a Martin tabletop thermography machine and it should be here by the end of the week.

My question is this- it says that it works only with a "wet ink" printer.

You guys know much more about this than me, what does that mean? Will it work with a standard desktop inkjet set to maximum ink coverage?

If not what do I need?

Thanks,
Matthew

I'm not sure what kind of thermo machine you bought. Is it for inkjet printer of for regular type of press like letterpress or offset?

Heidelberg Offset Press wet-ink is offset printing

I operate an offset printing press with a thermography unit everyday. As far as I know, wet-ink printing "offset printing" is the only way to achieve the desired effect of a thermagrapher.

I don't think so. My knowledge of thermography is that it has to printed on press, then sprayed then the ink gets baked. It's kind of like thowing baking powder in a cake batter then throwing into the oven.
