I have a 1250 multi with a compact II dampening system. The teflon seal on the non-operator side wears out long before the other side does. I have checked and double checked all my pressures, I have even switched the springs around, with no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

How long does the seal last? I had a unit on a Hamada and ran it for about 3 years with the original set of seals, just wiped them off every now and then. Now I'm in an inhouse shop so this press doesn't run all the time but we had them on ABDicks where I worked before and if my memory serves me right changed them maybe every 6 months or so. Only thing there is the spring and the roller. When you say it wears out explain that, is it leaking or what?

    Banjoman,
I don't use this press that much, only on the weekends. I have to change the seals but only on the non-operator side, trouble is you can only buy them in sets. The seal just wears thin to the point the instructions say replace it or roller damage could occur, it will also start leaking. I have switched the springs around and that didn't help. Just seems real strange that only one side would wear out and the other side has little or no wear? Has me puzzled.

just run them theyll be fine, they are supposed to wear. change it when it leaks or is so thin you have no choice, but i wouldnt worry about it.

i agree, if there are no other problems, just change them as needed. it has been a lot of years since i have used one, but couldnt you take some of the extra OS seals slide them over to the non OS side and run them inside out? i dont remember really any difference between the two sides. maybe with a slight modification. i could be wrong though.

Be sure the seal backing plate isn't slightly bent. This can cause premature seal wear. And they can bend easy. You should get almost 2 months out of the seals running daily 8 hrs, 5 days a week. Seals are also Right and Left specific so be sure your installing the correct seal in each side. They are marked which I'm sure you know. If you run the unit dry they will chew up the teflon seal very fast. So if the unit it not used when running keep some water in the nip.

BTW if you do find the seal backing plate is bent it's normally the long screw that threads into the back of the plate. The threaded end can bend pretty easy.

probably stating the obvious here but make sure to put a dab of ink on each end of the rollers to make the seal
