Im thinking about starting a small quick print shop out of my house ...I dont want to work for "the man" any longer...I want to be "the man " .now im thinking about purchasing a presstek 9980 with a 2nd print head....any thoughts on this subject? I have a bout a dozen customers already lined up that would let me do there printing...mostly 1 and 2 color work...envelopes , letterheads , ncr forms...things of that nature. any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I also wish to start a business from home. I bought a press about a year ago an A.B. Dick 8820. It's been in my garage and I have to change rollers and I am good to go. Like you I am tired of the grind working for someone else and going nowhere. I shopped around for about a year before I found this machine. I looked at presses that I took one look at and just walked out, however I did finally find my dream machine which I got for $3,000. It does not have electronics which you want to avoid because on older machines parts are scarce now. I plan to do the same as you with letterhead. envelopes, business cards, ncr, etc. For this $3,000 I got the press with kompac, t-head, envelope feeder, blankets, clean-up sheets, chemicals, plates, ink mixing scale, thousands of dollars in brand new spare parts, and a ton of useable paper and envelopes.

I run at work now a new Presstek 9995C. It is a great machine however a duplicator for the small stuff and good quick money you can't beat.
I have been running A.B. Dick presses for 30 years now, and I know what works and what doesn't.

Don't waste your money on a new Presstek machine, go for a duplicator and check it out good first. you can buy one cheap and three jobs can pay it off, just know what to look for when you go shopping.

I hope this helps, let me know...
