Are there any experienced Hamada H234 press operators out there. I have a question about registration on the press when running 4 color over 2 passes.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

    Hey Thanks for your reply.
My question is I am having trouble with the side to side registration. I have set up the press with the push guide on the operators side and the springs on the non op side. Running 9x12 100# dull text 4/4. First pass c,m. Sheet is pushed about 1/8 inch after getting to head stop. Test registration by running 20 sheets then re running to see if reg. holds. It does fine. So I start the run and complete the c.m. Now I run the K,Y and registration holds for the most part but during the run I see mis registration only happening with side to side. Mis registration is erratic, no set pattern of say 50 good ones then a few bad ones. Up and down holds perfectly. I now compare the first run c,m sheet crop marks to the cmyk sheet crop marks and see that cm is registered but ky is not registered to c,m. There is no tail whip as the crop marks at the top of the sheet are out the same distance as the ones on the bottom. I have been running this press for over ten years and this problem has always been a concern to me. Now, the press does a fantastic job of registering on most jobs, just every so often I have this problem. Also I ran one job with the same specs just before running the one that I had the problem with. First one ran and registered 4/4 good.
I hope I have explained this well. I can be reached at the following email rlaxman63@gmail.com.

    Thanks for your help.

This may sound silly but it works and from the Hamada tech. Put the side springs on the OPS jogger side so the springs push and jog the sheet. And just the side guide without springs on the NOPS. Keep your speed under 5.0 if possible. Use about the same amount of push you do running other jobs. This goes against the way I have run everything on other small sheetfeds. But it works very well on this Hamada. I run a lot of 3-4 color tight trap register work so give it a shot. These presses don't have the best register and seems to vary from machine to machine. We have 3 of them at the shop. I've had the same issues as you until i put the spring on the jogger side. Funny.

Thanks for your quick reply. I had not considered your suggestion but I will try it out. What ever gets the job done. I will keep you update as to the results. By the way are there any technicians for this press still out there?

AL Larson in Mass. If your not on the east coast maybe contact them and see if they know someone in your area. Although Hamada is no longer they still service them. I've been dealing with them since the 80's. Good people.

    Hi FFR428,

A few months ago you provided me a solution for side to side registration issues I was having. I just realised that I had not thanked you. I reset the guides per your recommendation and although it takes some getting used to, it works. I have run many jobs on different stocks and sizes and they all register perfectly. Ran a 11 x 17 job on 12 x 18 sheet 4/4 100# gloss text full bleed last week, qty 5000 sheets, every one of them registered even at full speed. My Normal run speed is 7.5 - 8.00. Thanks again for your solution, printing has become a joy again.
