AB Dick 9840 Stuck in Impression

I cannot get this press to drop the impression cylinder. It is always in contact with the blanket.

I ordered a replacement sheet sensor for it, but that fixed nothing.

Please share any suggestions you might have to get this press to come out of impression.

Take off your non op side cover, there is a latch you should see that's about in the middle this controls impression, if it's not coming off impression your latch will be hooked on the lower one there is a set screw on the top latch directly left of the lower latch tighten it and pop the latch free then just hand feed some paper to make sure it latches when suppose to and releases when there is no feed hope this helps ya

    Impression Solenoid Not Functioning

Thanks so much for helping me locate that. The impression trip mechanism seemed similar to other presses I have worked on before. We did adjust the screw to keep it from constant impression, however now the solenoid seems to do nothing to activate or deactivate the impression.

Is there a way to test the solenoid to learn if the problem is related to something electrical or some other detector? I would prefer to be sure before ordering a replacement solenoid.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Can you get a pic of the non-op side whole upper frame view or do you know if you have an optical clock or a hall effect clock? If your solenoid was going on when powerd up, it probably is not the solenoid. When power is interupted solenoid is energized. I have only had to replace solenoids that had a broken connector from the operator pulling the plug on and off trying to trouble-shoot and accidentally touched the frame with the wire and shorted out the circuit board and had to replace it ($600). The lever to the right of your solenoid that has a 45° angle with a wheel at the bend is called a power lever that pushes the impression cylinder latch. Rotate the handwheel while hand feeding a sheet of 20lb bond, with the gap control (under handwheel) set at ten, till the impression cylinder latch pushes as far left as it will go before coming back, stop. Adjust the screw just to the left of the impression cylinder latch till there is a .005 gap between the top of the impression cylinder latch and the latching arm. The latch should now function. If sticking on impression the signal is telling the solenoid to energize. Now what type of clock sync do you have, optical or hall effect. Do you have a clear plastic dial with magnets that make a small circuit board LED flash on and off or is there belt with cogs that go from a cog gear to another cog gear? The timing is critical.

Sounds like a Timing problem.. you may also want to check your plug and the wires that connect to your feed sensor.. i have seen the insulation of the wires rubb off due to the contact of the frame causing a short.. also check your main board plugs.. the plugs are brittle and dry and with the vibration may shimmy loose...
